Why Might a Freelancer be a Good Idea?

If you run a small mom and pop business, Freelancing certain tasks out to VAs might save you time, but most of all money! Here’s why a freelancer might be better for your business instead of a part-time or full time employee. Of course this all depends on how large your business is. If your company is large enough to hire a PR employee and pay them a good $70K a year, then my services are not for you.

But many times a small starter business tries to cut some corners here and there by hiring an admin assistant who might be wonderful with many office skills, can handle a budget, type 45/50 words per minute, knows the ins and outs of excel and google docs, manages quickbooks with a breeze and is great at scheduling, but when it comes to social media management, their skill level is finding a pretty picture and saying a few words.

When they are asked about growth, target audience, demographics and reach, they can be clueless.

Let’s think about this for a minute, would your accountant, CPA or secretary also be good at graphic design, knowing social media trends and what you need to do to grow your following? Possible…but not likely. Yet many admin assistance are tasked with just this!

Freelancers may also save you money. Depending on the size of your company, freelancers can save you money. If you hire employees, you may have to provide benefits, vacation time, sick pay and provide a certain kind of work environment. These things aren’t necessary with a freelancer. With a freelancer you only pay for the services they offer you and not lost time like chit chatting at the water cooler.

The truth is, many small businesses keep their costs small by outsourcing tasks to VAs until they grow to a certain size.

While I offer packages starting at $450 per month, we can still customize something that works just for you. And let’s do the math here. The average PR professional makes roughly $62,800 a year. A year of my services at its full package price, would only be $5,400 . We can all see that hiring a freelancer to handle some of your PR could save you some money.

But let’s take this even further: The right freelance SM specialist may not only save you money, but if they do their job well enough, they will grow your business, profits and earn you new money, new clients and new sales!
